Golden Wedding Anniversary

Recently we had a couple return to visit The Old Marylebone Town Hall after 50 years of marriage.

Paul & Lynda said their vows at The Old Marylebone Town Hall in November 1968, and they brought their family back here with them 50 years later, to show them the special place where they got married.

“Paul and I met in Hastings in November 1966 aged 16 and 17. After leaving college I worked at the London Clinic as a cook and Paul was an electronic engineer apprentice. We were married at Marylebone Town Hall nearly two years later aged 18 and 19. We had to get permission from our parents to get married as we were under 21.

January Venue of the Month: Caledonian Club

Tucked away amongst the hustle and bustle of our capital city lies the Caledonian Club; a Scottish private member’s club that offers a unique and intimate setting for your special day.

Founded in 1891, the listed building is licensed to hold wedding ceremonies offering couples the choice of 4 licensed private rooms accommodating up to 150 guests. Alternatively, couples can opt to marry at the nearby churches of St Paul Knightsbridge, St Columba or St Michael’s in Chester Square before heading to the Club for their reception. Located in the beautiful surroundings of Belgravia, adjacent to Hyde Park Corner and a short walk from Victoria Station, the club’s location is second to none.

1. How long have you been a registrar and how many weddings and civil ceremonies have you overseen?
I have been a registrar for nearly 3 years now. I wish I had kept count as it must be nearing 2,000! The summer especially can get quite busy and I’ve conducted or registered up to 9 ceremonies in a day.
